I have the pleasure and honor of getting to know authors, writers and poets. I get to share a bit about these lovely people I meet with you, my blog readers.
Interview with Author Solease Barner – author of The Secrets of the Ghosts- The Sleeper
To give you a little background on who Solease M. Barner I will first tell you I am a person who loves life. I was born in raised in Vehicle City or Flint, Michigan. I currently still live in a suburban area in Michigan. I come from a family of all girls and there were four of us and we only had one bathroom. Yes my Dad still says he is missing bathroom time Lol. My family is very close. I am second to the oldest. I had great parents growing up they taught us girls how to be ladies and as an adult I still have great parents. I am married and have one daughter who is my princess. My husband and I are high school sweethearts. I graduated from University of Michigan with a Bachelors in Sociology and I have a Masters in Criminal Justice from Kaplan University. My goal through life was to be a great attorney. Writing poetry and short stories got me through all me frustrations growing up. Poetry was a way I expressed myself. I still write poetry but, the only one who sees it is my husband maybe one day I will share with others, not sure. That is who Solease is in a few sentences.
What inspired you to begin writing?
Writing has been a part of me sense I was really young. I was in a club called the Young Authors club in middle school. I was writing short stories and poems and really have enjoyed the writing world. I am truly a huge reader and when I would read I would come up with poems or side stories for some of the readings I had read as a little girl. This never left me and I still do that to this day. I think reading others books really inspired me to write as well.
When did you begin your writing journey?
Well let my mother tell you she would say I have been writing before I could read. I think writing is a part of me it is a portion of who Solease is. I could not imagine not writing. So I guess my journey begin at a very young age.
What inspired you to write this book?
I was inspired to write Secrets of the Ghosts-The Sleeper in one of the worst times in my life. From the result of me having Systematic Lupus my kidneys failed. I am a recipient of two Kidney transplants. The second time when I was placed on dialysis in 2009 I was not sure how to deal with the hurt. I began to go to another world instead of dealing with my own issues. Writing became a way for me to cope with all the hurt. One day after a really bad day I grabbed my notebook and began to write about the world I was living in. The characters started to develop and I continued to write. I became more fascinated with the character Holiday and continued to write. I started reading it to my husband and he loved it and he is not a reader. I had written so much I decided to stop and my husband and I decided that we she publish it. Secrets of the Ghosts-The Sleeper I decided to be the First book in a Trilogy.
The book that is out currently is Secrets of the Ghosts –The Sleeper it is my very first novel. It is something that people will not expect. The main character Holiday lives two lives and it is just not her but, her adopted sisters as well. Holiday is living a perfect life with a great husband and a beautiful little girl. The story is complex because her husband thinks she is one thing and really she is something else and to make matters worse a person she loves betrays her and forces her secret life out. That is all I will tell but, the real secret is what a sleeper is. The book will have you guessing and wondering what is next throughout the book. It is action, romance, drama, and suspense all in one book.
What is the best advice you have received about writing?
The best advice I have received is that to keep writing no matter what. Never quit and always revise, revise and then revise some more.
What was your biggest challenge in writing this book?
My biggest challenge hands down was writing while being sick. I would be so tired and needed to rest but because the characters are so alive I found myself writing when I should have been resting. I enjoyed writing and now the challenge is writing in between promoting. I am no longer ill and have been doing well so now is just finding the time in between promoting the first book The Sleeper.
Most writers are readers. What books are on your “to-read” list?
I am a huge reader and read everything. I like all genres. I have recently fallen in love with paranormal romance books. I have a huge list in my to-read list. I am a big supporter of self-published authors and always find myself reading books of authors who are new. I have John Grisham on the list as well as some works by Tina Folsom. Nevertheless, I am really big on supporting the authors who are not well known so I have a huge list of self-published authors.

What was your favorite childhood toy and why?
My favorite toy when I was a child was my tea set. I loved playing tea with my dolls. I had a great time lol. I really enjoyed playing tea and pretending I was some kind of princess and all my dolls were like my friends who came for tea with me every day. I loved my tea set.
